Local Businesses Pass Alcohol Compliance Checks

The Central Nebraska Coalition Against Substance Abuse (CNCASA) and the Two Rivers Public Health Department partnered with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) to conduct alcohol compliance checks throughout the month of December.

A compliance check consists of the Nebraska State Patrol officers taking an underage minor to a liquor license holder establishment where he/she attempts to purchase alcohol from the liquor license holder. If the business refuses the sale, they pass the compliance check. If they sell to the minor, they fail the check and are issued a citation for selling alcohol to a minor. The compliance check team attempted to contact all 53 of the liquor license holders in Dawson, Gosper, and Phelps Counties during the checks, but 10 businesses were closed during the time of the checks.

There were a total of 43 checks completed, with 36 businesses passing. In Dawson County, 20 of 25 businesses passed. In Gosper County, 4 of 4 businesses passed. In Phelps County, 12 of 14 businesses passed.

To help liquor license holders and businesses stay up-to-date on laws and regulations for serving or selling alcohol, CNCASA offers the Responsible Beverage Server Training class(TIPS).        This class is available to any business/person that serves or sells alcohol to the public for a fee of $25 per person. Each TIPS class is one, four hour session, and includes handouts for each attendee. A TIPS class can be scheduled by contacting Audrey Sinn at the Two Rivers Public Health Department at (308)995-4778 or 1-888-669-7154.
