Jump into June for Bone Health
with Reduced Cost Screening
Two Rivers Public Health Department wants you to “Jump into June for Bone Health”. Bones are important. They give structure to our bodies, protect organs, anchor muscles, and store calcium. Osteoporosis is a disease of the skeletal system. It is characterized by low bone mass and deteriorating bone tissue. People considered to be most at risk for osteoporosis, include those who are: female, Caucasian, post menopausal women, older adults, small in body size, eat a diet low in calcium, and physically inactive.
June is also Dairy Month. So…what better time to examine your calcium intake, since calcium is a mineral needed by the body for healthy bones, teeth, and proper functioning of the heart, muscles, and nerves? Dairy products, dark green leafy vegetables, calcium fortified foods and nuts, such as almonds, are all good sources of calcium.
An opportunity for a bone density screening is available, by appointment, for the reduced rate of $10 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Human Performance Lab during the mornings of June 14-17. A limited number of appointments are available. Please call Bryce Abbey at 1(308)865-8177 to schedule an appointment.
